Pine Forest Board members present were David Chantler, Lyn Theobald, Harry Grant. Manager
Andy Oosterhof.
Dave Chantler called the meeting to order at 3:05 p.m.
Forest Health
A brief but informative presentation by Connie Mehmel from the forest service gave us an update on the current
tussock moth infestation in the region. The moths have an outbreak every 7-14 years. The tussock moth is a native
insect and prefer fur trees, but will eat pine trees as well. Last outbreak in our area was in the 70’s. The moths are
reclusive and live in the crowns of trees; it is the caterpillars’ that actually do the damage to the trees by eating
the needles. The outbreaks have a 4-year cycle, and the Mazama/Twisp River areas are thought to be in year 3 of a cycle.
The Pine Forest area is not infected, and our risk for infection is thought to be low. For more information check the
Forest Service website.
Pine Forest has a budget for forest health in our green belt areas. There are fewer grants available for forest health
that we have applied for in the past. Lynn Lewicki has volunteered to research this further and see if the DNR might
also have some monies we can apply for to use in Pine Forest.
Road Work
It has been an exceptionally wet spring causing significant road damage. Andy is unable to repair the roads until it
dries up and basically stops raining. The roads and drainage will be repaired as the weather cooperates.
Recyling Options
There is a new business which would provide re-cycling services for Pine Forest by our garbage dumpster, at a cost.
We would also need to provide a concrete pad for the containers. It was decided at the meeting to avoid any additional
costs for garbage and re-cycling. The board will continue to monitor the need for this service and any additional
garbage services. We are currently doing well with one dumpster. We are charged a flat rate for garbage, the dumpster is
emptied weekly whether it is full or not.
Please remember to flatten boxes, or re-cycle cardboard/bottles/metal at the new re-cycle center dumpster located on
Horizon Flats. It is open 24/7. Our dumpster is meant to be used for household garbage only, no construction materials
please!
Mail Boxes
The Post Office will not provide mail delivery to the Pine Forest entrance. They will provide delivery to boxes at the
road junction of Elbow Coulee and Sun Mountain Road. It was decided to not pursue this issue any further.
New Issues
Reconciliation of lots was discussed. The question came up as to whether an owner could move a property line once they
consolidated two or more lots. The board will research this further.
Location and time of membership meetings were discussed. It was decided that we would change the time and location of
the spring meeting to increase socialization and make the meeting later so members can have the whole afternoon to play
or relax. The spring meeting will be held at 5PM, location to be announced. We will arrange to have our own space in
a local pub or eatery for the spring meeting. The winter meeting will continue to be held at the lodge at 4 PM.
Elections
There are two openings on the board. The board has recommended that Casey Rudd and Marishka Martin continue on the
board, they were elected by the membership to do so.
Dave Chantler proposed that the board review the terms of current positions so as to avoid having two or more board
members elected in the same year. This will be done for continuity of the board; so we do not end up will an all-new
board without experience.
Meeting was adjourned at 4:06
Respectfully Submitted
Lyn Theobald
